The Battle Library, Reading Edgington Spink and Hyne were part of the Design and Build Team headed up by Mansells Construction Services who were awarded the contract for the refurbishment of the Library, by Reading Borough Council. Battle Library is a Grade II listed building situated to the west of Reading Town Centre, on the Oxford Road. Completed in 1908, it was the first Library to be built by the Reading Borough. The refurbishment of the Library included internal improvements and alterations within the building together with external repairs. A new terrace has been constructed at the rear of the building for use by readers and visiting Schools. Out Client was eager to improve the environmental performance of the building and therefore improvements have been made to the insulation of the structure and a ‘green’ sedum roof installed to aid the biodiversity of the site and rainwater retention to improve surface water control. Main Contractor: Mansells Structural Engineer: Andrew Waring Associates Mechanical and Electrical Engineer: Hudson, Dick and Associates |
