| Langley Library, Slough, Berkshire Langley Library was part of a mixed development, which also includes 20 No. shared equity one and two bedroom flats. The development replaces the existing library which was in a poor serviceable condition and adjacent lock-up garages that also occupy the site. Within the Library staff facilities occupy the western side, adjacent to the access road to the residential element of the development, whilst the remainder is simply a single cohesive open space allowing a modern and flexible layout. This up to date facility will provide for the latest technology as well as more traditional services. |

Hungerford Library, Hungerford, Berkshire
Following earlier studies West Berkshire Council identified the need to provide a completely new library at the site in Hungerford, incorporating replacement public conveniences. The new facility was planned to meet this need, to operate efficiently, to enhance the service offered to the public, to provide full access under the Disability Discrimination Act. The library space is a simple open rectangle, easily supervised from the counter, which also controls the entrance. It derives light from a clerestory on the western side, and has substantial windows looking onto the secluded areas to the rear. The new facility was also designed to form a modest local landmark, to relate to its surroundings in choice of materials, and to be a good neighbour in terms of scale and detail. |
