Maidenhead Town Hall, Maidenhead - Internal Refurbishment Maidenhead Town Hall was designed and built in the late 1950s as the principle seat of Local Government for the area. Since the building was constructed it had remained largely unaltered. Our Client, The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, wanted to remodel and refurbish the interior to reflect and improve the level of public services now provided to the local community. One of the key aims was to make the Town Hall more accessible to the general public in every respect. The external landscaping at the front of the building has been remodelled to provide a level approach. A new public entrance and Customer Reception has been created and the ground floor opened up to form a Customer Services area and a Call Centre. A new lift has been installed to improve accessibility and on the first floor the Council Chamber altered so that it provides a flexible space for meetings and other functions. All the works were carried out whilst the offices on the upper floors of the building remained in use. This involved remodelling the external landscaping at the front of the building to enable a level approach to be provided together with a new main entrance. Inside the building a new Customer Reception has been created that includes computer terminals for public access to council services, ATM facilities for payments and informal seating for those waiting to see council officers. The very formal interior has been replaced with a modern design that flows and leads the visitor into the building. |
