Royal Holloway College was founded by Thomas Holloway and opened by Queen Victoria in 1886. The architect was William Henry Crossland. Edgington Spink & Hyne have worked on some 200 different contracts including laboratories and science buildings, an arts building and work on the botany and physics departments as well as a bank. The practice has also designed a range of residential accommodation including "Kingswood", a campus development for 300 students and residential accommodation for a further 200 students in the form of shared houses and flats.
