Thames Valley Leisure and Fitness Centre
Thames Valley Park was originally developed as part of the
extensive Thames Valley Business Park on the banks of the Thames at Reading. It
is now operated by David Lloyd Centres. The main construction is wide spanning
curved triangular lattice beams suspended from tall tubular pylons.
The site which was on contaminated land needed extensive
engineering works. Our involvement was from initial feasibility studies through
to Planning Applications and production information and occasional advice during
construction.
This is an innovative structural solution designed to add
importance to the building which forms a land mark at the entrance to Thames
Valley Park. The design of the building allows for flexibility so that floors
can be added and alterations made at a later date. The brief called for the use
of modern constructional techniques and is intended to add to the already 'high
tech' ambiance of the rest of the development.
